According to the FAQ:
Why Cayra needs Internet connection?
Cayra is regurlarly checking for available updates and downloads them automatically (usually updates' weight is not very big). No private information is being sent during Cayra's connection to the Internet.
May I assume that this isn't absolutely necessary all the time? Being on dialup, and having only one phone line, I try not to tie up the line for hours on end. My ISP wouldn't be too pleased about it either.
Thanks! :-)
P.S. I just noticed something strange about the date & time while the post was in preview mode:
Wed, 12/31/1969 - 18:00 — Dialer
That's a server or forum problem, rather than my computer's, yes? ;-)
Edit: Oh, never mind. It's just in preview mode and doesn't affect the final post.
Re: Internet connection to run Cayra?
1. Yes, this is not neccessary, this issue was added to the FAQ so that Cayra users with connection like ASDL would know why Cayra sends requests to the Internet and not get worried - it's just for the sake of checking information on updates.
2. Forum sometimes behaves in a strange way. We'll try to sort it out.
Internet connection
OK, thanks. That's a relief, considering that I'm on dialup. Maybe that should be clarified in the FAQ so that folks don't think they must be on line.
Looks as though you've already taken care of the time stamp issue. :-)
Excellent!
Note: It doesn't mean that you neccessarily have to be online all the time. So if you're on dial-up it just means that you'll have to check for updates on the web-site and download them manually.
Two thumbs up! :-D
Re: Internet connection
Good idea, I have updated the FAQ. :-)
